    2010 Games Reports

Longs PeakScottish/Irish Festival, Estes Park, CO We had a great turn-out in Estes last week. It was topped off by 3 days of Estes' finest weather. All 3! Ian once again did a tremendous job of tent decoration and was helped by Kirk Stewart, Ted Childs, Shelly and Joe Nauman, John and Barbara Menaldino, Scott Hilty, Randall, Fiona, and several others. All contributed to the saturday noon clan feast which included meat pie, brisket, sandwhiches, fruit salads, tea, tons of desserts, Mary Stewart's shortbread, and, of course, whisky.

It all started thursday with move in and camping. AFriday was an easy day. The downtown parade started saturday and the festival was a mob scene. Sunday was the best weather and a good crowd. We wrote up 20 memberships (about 4 of which were renewals) and they are going back to the AGM this week. We are getting our membership a little more familiar with Facebook and using our website(s). I guess you want to see some pictures (check facebook for more.)

Utah Commissioner Dan Stuart reports on the Utah Scottish Games in Lehi, where he had 25 members and guests sign-in and 2 new members and 1 renewal:
We suffered a severe winter-like weather pattern again this year. Part of Thursday, all of Friday, Saturday, & Sunday we experienced heavy Monsoon-like rains, unrelenting winds, gusting up to 65 mph. Threatening Lightning and cold. The Utah Scottish Association, of which I am an Executive Board member, estimated that less than 50% of our normal crowd attended this years Games. In spite of these terrible conditions, we soldiered on, set up our tents, displays, and shared our love for our Stewart/Stuart History & Heritage. We hope that we will have much better weather in July for our Payson Scottish Games in Payson, UT. [That was a wierd streak of weather throughout the region; not just in Utah.--ed.]

Ian is alive! We just saw him and he went to Evans, CO last week and is planning to be in Cheyenne in June. Neil Gillette of CSSA is a big proponent of ours in the up -coming Elizabeth Festival.

    2009 Games Reports

Clan Stewart attended or was represented at the above games and festivals by RHC Ian Wilson and the applicable state commissioners. The biggie in the games was, as usual, the Longs Peak Scottish/Irish Festival in Estes Park, Colorado. It was a double tent space and took over 3 hours to set up and the same to tear down. Since Ian and Kirk were there starting on Tuesday to grab good camping spaces for all our members it was a long, but enjoyable week. Tremenduous thanks to the loyal set-up and tear-down volunteer crew! Helping Ian and Kirk were Scott Hilty, David Elliot, John and Barb Menaldino, and new member (from Colorado Scottish Festival/Highlands Ranch Games) Ted Childs. Shelly Nauman and her son Joe also worked with us all weekend.

The weather was typical, meaning two relatively good days and one slightly blusterly and definately rainy day. The annual picnic on Saturday went well. We missed Ian's usual pasty "en crout", but the hot stew soup and chili fit the day well. We had lots left over to share with our clan friends. And now, for some pictures courtesy of some Caln Hamilton cousins.
